Upgrade:

All upgrades will feature a new wireless transmitter that will allow consumption data to be sent directly to the city. All data contains only the water meter serial number and consumption data. No identifiable property owner information is transmitted. The exact upgrade process will be determined based on the information gathered during the inspection.

Added benefits of the new system:
Businesses with the new meter system will be able to securely track their company’s water consumption online by the start of 2013.

Installation details:
Installations can occur outside of business hours if necessary. Installations can be scheduled at a time that will have the least impact on the operation. Most water meters will be downsized unless a customer requires their current size capacity. Installation times can vary depending on complexity. In some cases installations can take several hours.

Installation details:
Prior to any installation, it is the responsibility of the property owner to ensure that all asbestos is removed from any pipes in and around the water meter and shut-off valve, as outlined in the health and safety act.

All water meters will be equipped with a separate wireless transmitter. In most cases the transmitter will be located near the water meter. If it is determined during the inspection that no signal will be possible, the transmitter will be installed at a different location, possibly outside the building, where adequate signal strength is possible. Wire will be run to the new location, and if outdoors, the wire will be encased in protective conduit.
