ICI summary:

What is an ICI customer?
ICI customers are industrial, commercial and institutional customers.

What kind of water service do ICI customers have?
ICI customers can typically have a wide assortment of meter sizes ranging from small water meters, 5/8" to 1," to large water meters, 1.5" to 10."

Do plumbers install water meters for ICI customers?
Any meter greater than 1” will be installed by a licensed plumber working for Neptune.

Will I be without water during my installation?
Many large and intermediate water meters use a bypass. This allows the flow of water to temporarily be diverted around the actual water meter. With the bypass engaged, installers are able to do work on the meter without any water disruption to the customer. However, in cases where bypassing is not possible, then water will need to be turned off.

Where is my water meter located?
ICI accounts typically have their meters in mechanical rooms, underground vaults or basements.

Can one account have multiple water meters?
It is not uncommon for customers to have several water meters for one address. All meters serving one address will be replaced.

Site inspection:

What is a site inspection?
The site inspection allows Neptune to determine how best to complete the installation. Many logistical issues are identified in the inspection including: space, pipe size, type, and quality, valve status, location of transmitter, if a wire run is needed, wire run path and so on.

Does my facility require a site inspection?
Site inspections are required for all ICI customers with a 3-inch service or greater. For customers with a 3-inch line or greater, no installation can occur until a site inspection is completed.

Who needs to be present during the site inspection?
The site inspection requires someone with working knowledge of the building’s water system to be present at the time of inspection.

Installation:

Can installations occur outside my operating hours?

Yes. Installations can occur outside of business hours if necessary. Installations can be scheduled at a time that will have the least impact on the operation.

Will my new water meter be the same size as my old water meter?
Most water meters will be downsized unless a customer requires their current size capacity.

How long will my installation take?
Installation times can vary depending on complexity. In some cases installations can take several hours.

I'm a plumber. Can I install my water meter myself?
Only Neptune installers are able to install water meters.

How should I prepare for my installation?
Prior to any installation, it is the responsibility of the property owner to ensure that all asbestos is removed from any pipes in and around the water meter and shut-off valve, as outlined in the health and safety act.

Where will my new transmitter be located?
All water meters will be equipped with a separate wireless transmitter. In most cases, the transmitter will be located near the water meter. If it is determined during the inspection that no signal will be possible, the transmitter will be installed at a different location, possibly outside the building, where adequate signal strength is possible. Wire will be run to the new location, and if outdoors, the wire will be encased in protective conduit.

What kind of power source does my new wireless transmitter require?
All wireless transmitters come equipped with a factory installed battery. The battery is designed to last for the lifespan of the wireless transmitter, and should never need to be replaced.
