The installation
Installation in an unfinished basement:
Installation in a finished basement:
- An installer, in uniform, will arrive at your home. All installers will have an ID badge
- The installer will locate your main shut-off valve, typically found in the basement and turn off your water.
- Your old water meter will be removed and a new water meter will be installed in its place.
- A wireless transmitter will be mounted above the water meter. The transmitter will allow your new water meter to send consumption data directly to the City.
- The installer will test your new water meter and ensure that it is working correctly.
- If an access panel/box is requested, the installer will take the necessary measurements and install a standard panel/box on site. The panel/box is free of charge.
Installation in a finished basement:
- The installer will determine if there is enough space to perform the installation. Click here to read more about accessibility.
- No access to services located behind drywall or paneling in finished basements should not present a problem. After consulting the person present for the installation, installers will neatly cut out a small section of drywall and paneling to gain access to the main shut-off valve and existing water meter. Tenants should get permission from the owner/landlord before making any permanent changes to the dwelling they reside in.
- The installer will shut off the water to your home. The remaining water in your lines will be drained.
- The installer will then remove the old water meter.
- The installer will then mount the new water meter in place of the old unit.
- A wireless transmitter is then mounted above the water meter.
- The installer will test your new water meter and ensure that it is working correctly.
- Once the water meter is installed, there are two options for covering the hole: the installer can cover the hole with a standard cover box, or the homeowner can cover it themselves. Neptune will install the standard cover box at no cost on site. In either case, the hole must not be permanently covered to allow for future maintenance.
