  1. An installer, in uniform, will arrive at your home. All installers will have an ID badge.
  2. The installer will locate your main shut-off valve, typically found in the basement.
  3. The installer will then shut off the water to your home. The remaining water in your lines will be drained.
  4. The installer will then cut the pipe, about an inch from the main shut-off valve.
  5. The installer will then mount the water meter to the pipe.
  6. A wireless transmitter is then mounted above the water meter. The transmitter allows your new water meter to send consumption data to the City.
  7. The installer will test your new water meter and ensure that it is working correctly. If an access panel/box is requested, the installer will take the necessary measurements and install a standard panel/box on site, at no cost.

  1. The installer will determine if there is enough space to perform the installation. Click here to read more about accessibility.
  2. Services located behind drywall or paneling in finished basements should not present a problem. After consulting the person present for the installation, installers will neatly cut out a small section of drywall and paneling to gain access to the main shut-off valve. (If there is already enough space, 48-cm by 38-cm, the installer will not need to cut the wall. A homeowner can choose to make their own opening prior to the arrival of the installer. Tenants should get permission from the owner/landlord before making any permanent changes to the dwelling they reside in.)
  3. The installer will shut off the water to your home. The remaining water in your lines will be drained.
  4. The installer will then cut your line about an inch above your main shut-off valve.
  5. The installer will then mount the new water meter on the line.
  6. A wireless transmitter is then mounted above the water meter.
  7. The installer will test your new water meter and ensure that it is working correctly.
  8. Once the water meter is installed, there are two options for covering the hole: the installer can cover the hole with a standard cover box, or the homeowner can cover it themselves. Neptune will install the standard cover box at no cost on site. In either case, the hole must not be permanently covered to allow for future maintenance.
